The Ethel Walker School - Simsbury, Connecticut

CVHI is unique in that it allows its participants to choose between a solo, an ensemble, or a combined "track" to follow during their stay in Connecticut. Each track offers its own custom designed classes specific to either ensemble or solo playing, which are described below:

SOLO TRACK
Solo Track campers have several choices within the Solo Track course of study:
1.Preparation of competition, audition, orchestral or solo material
2. Preparation of background/wedding repertoire
3. Concerto study
(Piano or alternate instrument accompaniment can be provided for those wishing to perform a concerto in the final program).

Solo Track Daily Program:
2-3 Hours of Private and Instructor-Monitored Practice
2 Private Lessons, 1 with Each Instructor
Daily Classes in Rhythm, Theory and Sight-Reading, and Technique
Themed Master Classes/Workshops/Mock Auditions
Late afternoon or evening games, outdoor activities and entertainment

Students interested in the Solo Track should have their solo works begun and well in progress by the time they arrive at CVHI. Each solo track participant is required to present a program of no more than 15 minutes in length on the final recital. The Solo Track program is a wonderful option for the beginner harpist who wants to learn more repertoire and improve their skills in a focused environment, all the way through to the advanced harpist who wishes to prepare college audition repertoire, receive quality instruction and practice time on a concerto, or expand their background, sacred or wedding repertoire. Rhythm, sight-reading, theory and technique classes will group them with their Ensemble Track counterparts, and themed Master Classes and workshops will include elements of fun, learning and the occasional surprise. Scheduled outdoor and cultural events throughout the week are sure to provide fun and friend-forming in the late afternoon and evenings.

HARP ENSEMBLE TRACK

Harp Ensemble Track Daily Program:
2-3 Hours of Morning Rehearsal, Daily
2 Private Lessons, 1 with Each Instructor
Daily Classes in Rhythm, Theory and Sight-Reading, and Technique
Themed Master Classes/Workshops/Mock Auditions
Late afternoon or evening games, outdoor activities and entertainment

Ensemble Trackers will begin their day daily with a two and one-half hour harp ensemble rehearsal, with techniques offered to help them build crucial ensemble skills intrinsic to harp ensemble performance. Harp Ensemble trackers will take the same rhythm, theory, sight-reading and technique classes as their Solo Tracker counterparts, as well as themed master classes and workshops (additional private lessons are also available for an extra fee). Late afternoon and evening outdoor games and cultural activities will give them an opportunity for laughter and fun with other campers. Harp Ensemble Trackers will have music sent to them in advance, which should be prepared ahead of time. Students interested in Harp Ensemble track must have previous ensemble or chamber experience, and 2-4 years of private harp study.

COMBINED TRACK
The combined track offers study of both solo and harp ensemble repertoire, in addition to intensive study of orchestral excerpts.

This exciting and learning-filled week will culminate in a final recital Friday evening, in which each student will participate either as a soloist, or as part of a group. Saturday morning leaves time for goodbyes, hugs and contact exchanges at breakfast before a morning departure.

CVHI offers interested students of 12-19 years of age either a day or overnight option, from Sunday, July 18th - Saturday, July 24th, 2010. Students will be housed in dormitory-style double accomodations, with adults on the premises, and three meals daily.
